About Us

History

The group was founded in July 2007 as the Gateway City Supporters Club. After much deliberation among the founding members it was decided that the current name, while descriptive and appropriate, was not the best name for our group. Several new names were considered and a vote was held with the winner being EADS BRIGADE. We officially announced our re-branding on May 16, 2008.

The Name and Logo

Our name is an obvious play on Eads Bridge which spans the Mississippi river at St. Louis, connecting St. Louis, MO and East St. Louis, IL. It was the first road and rail bridge to span the Mississippi.

The Eads Brigade logo was designed by group founder and current vice president Matt Anderson.

Logo Elements

  • Colors: The colors are the same as those in the St. Louis Soccer United logo. The colors of the supporters group will change to reflect the colors chosen by the St. Louis professional team.
  • Shield: Carried by knights and infantry into battle.
  • Eads Bridge: A portion of the bridge representing its design is seen behind the club name. It symbolizes our goal of uniting the entire St. Louis metro area in support of the future professional team.
  • Embattled Line: This element separates the bridge and group name from the rest of the shield. It symbolizes the walls of a fortress, which is what we plan to make the stadium in Collinsville.
  • Mississippi River: A reproduction of the border between Missouri and Illinois near St. Louis, again symbolizing connecting the two states in support of the team.
  • Fleur-de-lys: This is a classic symbol of French royalty and more specifically, Louis IX of France, the city's namesake. It is also found on the flag of the city of St. Louis.
  • Man on Horseback: This is a representation of the statue of Saint Louis that is found in front of the the St. Louis Art Museum.
  • Soccer Ball: This indicates the sport that we support, soccer, football, or fútbol.
  • Sword and Crown: This is another reference to King Louis IX of France. The crown symbolizes a defender of a fortress (see Embattled Line above). The sword symbolizes military honor, a concept we plan to embrace as supporters of the St. Louis professional team.
